The Port of Singapore Authority was formed in 1964, taking over the assets and liabilities of the Singapore Harbour Board and it took on the functions connected with port operations. In 1996, a bill was passed under which the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore would take over the functions of the National Maritime Board, the Ministry of Communication's Marine Department and the regulatory functions of the Port of Singapore Authority. A bill was passed the next year to corporatize the Port of Singapore Authority, known as PSA Corporation.
