Singapore. Registry of Muslim Marriages
The Registry of Muslim Marriages is responsible for the solemnization and registration of Muslim marriages and is the custodian of the marriage records. It was set up under the Ordinance No. V 1880. The Muslim Ordinance of 1957 repealed the 1880 Ordinance. In addition to the Registry of Muslim Marriages, the new Ordinance provided for the establishment of the Muslim Law Court or Shariah (now Syariah) Court in Dec 1958. On 1 Jul 1968, the Administration of Muslim Law Act (Cap 42) repealed the Muslim Ordinance 1957.
