WSG Career Development Framework launched to professionalise career practitioners’ development
Four programmes will be introduced as part of the framework over a two-year period
Singapore, 27 August 2018 – Workforce Singapore (WSG) today launched the WSG Career Development Framework (CDF) to facilitate the capability and competency development of career practitioner professionals.
Singapore’s economy continues to restructure with an increasingly aging workforce having to adapt to disruptions from technology advancements. Jobseekers may lack the needed skills as well as the necessary information to find jobs that will lead them to fulfilling careers.
In today’s context, the role of career practitioners has therefore become more crucial. The primary goal of career practitioners is to help support jobseekers in their journey to finding a fulfilling career. By understanding clients’ personal profiles and establishing personal connections with them, career practitioners can fully guide them towards making informed decisions about their career development and taking the necessary steps forward.
The WSG CDF aims to professionalise the career practitioners industry by instituting a roadmap for the development and certification of their competencies. To jobseeker clients, it will serve as an assurance of the upholding of high professional standards, ethics and ethos in the Singapore career practitioner industry.
The WSG CDF defines the competencies for career professionals in different roles and these competencies are packaged into training courses that will help the career professional begin their practice. It consists of four programmes which will be rolled out over the next two years. See Appendix A for details.
Mr Tan Choon Shian, Chief Executive of WSG said, “The development of the WSG Career Development Framework signifies the importance and recognition placed on career practitioners. It reflects the crucial role they play in helping individuals navigate career crossroads and make good choices about their career goals. The professionalisation of the industry will provide practitioners with the edge in assisting jobseekers make quality career decisions. We encourage all practitioners to come forth and use this opportunity to deepen and broaden their competencies.”
Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Josephine Teo, launched the WSG CDF at the inaugural Career Practitioners Conference 2018, attended by about 300 career professionals, comprising career practitioners, career advisors, HR practitioners and education and career guidance counsellors. She was also on hand to present certificates of participation to the first 30 participants of the Career Advisory Programme (CAP), a 3-day introductory level course for professionals who provide or want to provide basic career and training advisory as a secondary role in their work.
The theme of the conference “Getting Ready for the Future – New Approaches, New Insights”, brings together international subject matter experts to share about the career development theories and practices that can help career practitioners better prepare the workforce in embracing changes in work trends and organisation structures. See Appendix B for details.
