North West Career Fair Series, launched on 13 July 2017, aim to enhance employment support for Singaporeans and to promote government schemes designed to improve individual’s employability. The upcoming career fair will drive the total number of available job opportunities to more than 2,500. To help residents be better in-tune with the needs of a changing economy, North West Community Development Council (CDC) will culminate its North West Career Fair Series with an addition of SkillsFuture Advice @ North West workshop at the North West Career Fair @ Marsiling – Yew Tee GRC (Yew Tee – Limbang).

Hosted by Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District, the North West Career Fair @ Marsiling – Yew Tee GRC (Yew Tee – Limbang) will be graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development & Second Minister for Finance and Adviser to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC GROs and attended by Special Guest Mr Alex Yam Ziming, Adviser to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC GROs on Friday, 22 June 2018 at Yew Tee CC. Media Arrival is at 9.30am.

North West CDC has partnered Workforce Singapore (WSG), NTUC Employment and Employability (e2i); and with the support from Grassroots Organisations (GROs); successfully organised three North West Career Fairs which brought 2,000 employment opportunities. Upcoming at the Yew Tee CC, residents can look forward to more than 600 job vacancies from 14 employers in sectors such as professional services, logistics, manufacturing, training and sales; offering roles from operations, technical, and executive to management levels.

Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development & Second Minister for Finance and Adviser to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC GROs, says, “While the overall unemployment rate in Singapore is low, we know that there are still concerns on the ground.  Rapid technology changes are putting more pressure on businesses and impacting the workplace. Workers need to continually upgrade their skills, and those who are displaced need help to be re-trained and find new jobs.  I am therefore happy to support this Career Fair in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC. Through the Fair, we are bringing job opportunities and government support schemes closer to our residents.  We are encouraging our residents to attend the Fair, and I am sure many will benefit from it.”

Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District, says, “Amidst a fast-paced changing economy and manpower landscape, job seekers might face challenges and stress in the course of their job searching process. When facing such situation, residents could explore three approaches. Firstly, stay relevant by understanding future economy and charting personal upgrading plans with the help of SkillsFuture Advice Workshop. Secondly, stay positive and reframe one’s mind-set to welcome new challenges. Thirdly, seek career guidance to develop an effective strategy in your job searching process. We hope residents could make the most out of our upcoming career fair.”

The North West Career Fair series is part of the Government’s continual efforts to bring job opportunities closer to the ground. The new SkillsFuture Advice @ North West workshop would be held to share insights relating to charting one’s career progression and promoting lifelong learning culture. The workshop comprises educational, interactive and reflective activities to guide participants to better understand the importance of career planning and skills upgrading.
