South West CDC and HP Singapore sign MOU to cement collaboration to build a future-ready community
This Thursday, the South West Community Development Council (CDC) will be signing a first-of-its-kind Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with HP Singapore (HP Inc.) to establish a strategic collaboration to address evolving community needs and future-proof residents within the South West District.
2 Conceived in August 2017, the South West Future Plan (SWFuture Plan) was launched to rally and mobilise community efforts in five (5) key focus areas; SG Cares, SG Secure, SG Health, SkillsFuture and Sustainable Singapore to address dynamic needs of the residents and improve future-readiness of the community. This MOU will be a key collaboration under the SWFuture Plan, whereby HP Singapore will be participating in projects that benefit the community and leverage its expertise in reinvention through innovation and growth.
3 Mayor Low says, “Private-public partnerships like these are catalysts for community growth. As our valued and long-term partner serving the South West, HP Singapore has enriched and uplifted our community in many ways, from sharing of its expertise, to volunteerism and practical contributions, and supporting the drive for lifelong learning. Today’s MOU is another example of their HP’s deep-seated commitment to improving lives. By combining our shared goals and values, we hope to create a caring, cohesive and inclusive South West.”
4 “Encouraging sustainability, diversity and inclusion is core to our values and is essential to making lives better within our local community,” said Mr. Lionel Chng, Managing Director, HP Singapore. “As a global company, we believe in creating a culture built on a growth mindset and lifelong learning. Through our values, we are pleased to continue our partnership with South West CDC to support Singapore’s success as a leading global economy.”
Cultivating a Growth Mind-set with SkillsFuture
5 HP Singapore is committed to upskilling its local and global workforce to ensure readiness for the future and will certify 150 SkillsFuture Growth Mindset Ambassadors who will educate HP employees throughout the organisation on the values of life-long learning with a growth mindset. This includes guiding fellow employees on the benefits of making the right career development choices to maximise their potential with a growth mindset and develop a mastery of skills through life-long learning.
6 “HP offers many career development opportunities including job rotations, a Professional Conversion Programme (PCP), a new graduate initiative (HP Star Programme) as well as platforms for learning like Brain Candy,” said Ivan Tan, Chief of Staff, Supply Chain Customer Support, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. “By understanding the extent of what SkillsFuture can offer, I’m excited to help fellow colleagues make the most of a wide range of opportunities available through the SkillsFuture initiative.”
Addressing Evolving Community Needs
7 In line with the Sustainable Singapore focus of the SWFuture Plan, HP Singapore will scale its HP Make IT Green Campaign, which aims to build community awareness of e-waste recycling and upcycling to create a circular economy. As one of the largest e-waste recycling efforts in Singapore that aims to collect 50,000 kg of e-waste over the next 12 months, HP volunteers will reach out to school children and residents in the South West District to educate the community on e-waste reuse and recycling.
8 HP Singapore will also extend its diversity and inclusion framework through skills-based volunteer efforts by providing expertise for the upcoming Integrated Care Programme @ South West (ICP) @ South West, a wrap-around child-centric programme for vulnerable children (in primary school) and families in partnership with community partners.
9 As part of the SG Secure movement, HP Singapore will tap into the Corporate Social Integration (CSI) Fund to promote workplace integration through activities and training under the Corporate Social Responsibility pillar. The CSI Fund is an SGSecure initiative by the CDC to celebrate diversity, inclusion and integration within the workplaces, as well as the community.
