3-year collaboration to benefit at least 6,000 residents and build a network support for caregivers within the North West District
North West Community Development Council (CDC) and Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) will kick start a 3-year collaboration to fight cancer via a 3As plan, “Awareness, Action, Advocacy”, mainly to empower and engage the community through cancer education forums, health screenings, health living activities and develop a Cancer Caregivers Network within the North West District.
2 Titled, “SCS Fight Cancer Programme @ North West”, it will be launched at the Singapore Cancer Society – TalkMed Relay on Sunday, 11 March 2018, at The Singapore Sports Hub. Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Speaker of Parliament will grace the event together with Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District. Media arrival is at 7.30am.
3 Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District says, “Being closer to the ground, the North West CDC is in a strategic position to play the connecting role, bringing useful schemes and programmes to reach out to the wider community. We are happy to kick start a 3-year collaboration with Singapore Cancer Society to not just increase awareness of cancer and embrace healthy living, but also to support those impacted by cancer and build a Cancer Caregivers Network. North West CDC hopes to continue encourage more of such initiative to aggregate resources and tap on partner’s expertise to reach out to the wider community.”
4 Mr Albert Ching, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Cancer Society says, “By collaborating with North West CDC, Singapore Cancer Society can jointly fight cancer and reach out to more Singaporeans to raise cancer awareness and reduce the incidence of cancer. We want to empower North West District residents with cancer knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle which includes regular cancer screening. We are also pleased to further support the cancer community by equipping caregivers with resources and psychosocial support. SCS will be sharing our framework to develop the Caregivers Network for caregivers to provide better care to cancer patients at home.”
5 Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) will share expert knowledge on cancer, provide screening services (eg. FIT, Pap smear and mammogram) for the North West residents and support towards setting up Cancer Caregivers Network. North West CDC, on the other hand, will extend our project management expertise in hosting 4 educational forums per year and engage community leaders to identify known cancer cases and help spread the cancer prevention messaging and increase uptake of screening programmes.
