MUIS’ STATEMENT ON MUFTI’S FRIDAY SERMON

Dear Editors and Media Friends,

  1. The Friday prayer sermon today, called on the Muslim community to be wary of messages which misquote verses from the Quran as well as prophetic sayings and traditions in an effort to justify acts of violence.

  2. In particular, Mufti of Singapore, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram cited the example of a recent video (produced by ISIS and featuring Singaporean Megat Shahdan), and pointed out several false messages in the video, designed to mislead and influence viewers, which are gross distortions of Islam.

  3. Expanding on the examples cited by Mufti in the sermon, the Office of the Mufti would like to highlight several problematic aspects of the video. Please refer to the media statement attached for details.

  4. Also appended are the sermons (English and Malay) for your immediate reporting.

  5. Thank you for your support.
