NEEDS-BASED FACILITIES FOR RESIDENTS TO BE INTRODUCED AT 240 RC THEMATIC CORNERS ACROSS SINGAPORE

NEEDS-BASED FACILITIES FOR RESIDENTS TO BE INTRODUCED AT 240 RC THEMATIC CORNERS ACROSS SINGAPORE

Some 240 Residents’ Committee (RC) Thematic Corners were set up in April 2017 to refresh and strengthen RC programmes to meet the changing needs of residents. These thematic corners were designed to provide families and neighbours with the relevant facilities, courses and space to encourage them to mingle and make friends. The thematic corners were decided based on feedback from residents during house visits by grassroots volunteers over all constituencies in Singapore.

2            “Building on residents’ interests, we set up thematic corners at RC centres to offer customised programmes for small-group interaction. We welcome residents to share their hobbies or let their RC know what programmes they hope to participate in, so that residents have a larger stake in deciding RC courses and programmes.” said RC Council Chairman, Mr Bob Lau, PBM

3            RCs chose to set up one of three corners for their residents – Café Corner, which provides coffee and tea for residents and allows them to mingle with one another; Sports Corner, which loans out sports equipment to residents to play games with their neighbours and runs sports clinics based on residents’ requests; and Handicrafts Corner, which serves as a platform for families to spend time together through making art pieces and undergoing art courses. Based on the identified themes, these RCs have been equipped with the necessary facilities and have been introducing programmes based on residents’ needs and interests. (More information on the various thematic corners is in the Annex.)
