National Geographic Channels present INSIDE MARITIME SINGAPORE’
Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Singapore Shipping Association partner with National Geographic Channels to document Singapore’s maritime industry in celebration of SG50

SINGAPORE, JUNE 26, 2015 – In celebration of Singapore’s golden jubilee (SG50) this year, National Geographic Channels (NGC), part of the FOX International Channels (FIC) network, has partnered with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) to produce a long-form documentary titled, “Inside Maritime Singapore,” set to air on June 30th at 7pm (SGT) across Singapore, Hong Kong and the rest of Southeast Asia.

The maritime industry has played an integral part in Singapore’s economic growth and is one of the heritage-rich industries that have witnessed the transformation of Singapore over the past 50 years. This will be the first time the public will get to witness the inner workings of the maritime industry, which contributes 7% of Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs more than 170,000 people.

Inside Maritime Singapore” journeys into the Port of Singapore, the global pivot of trade connected to more than 600 ports in over 120 countries. It follows how Singapore’s port has grown from a colonial trading outpost to one of the world’s busiest ports, largest container transhipment hub, a leading International Maritime Centre, and world leader in offshore and marine engineering.

Witness the dynamic lives of the people in the maritime industry, and how they contribute to the port, offshore and marine engineering and maritime services to ensure the sectors function smoothly and efficiently.

Seaborne trade has been an important lifeline for Singapore since its founding. While Maritime Singapore's strong fundamentals have enabled it to perform well over the years, the maritime industry today continues to operate under challenging market conditions. The capabilities to reinvent itself as more than just an efficient container port, but also an important centre for maritime services has attributed to the current success and international clientele she now enjoys.

Mr Andrew Tan, Chief Executive, MPA said, “The growth and success of Maritime Singapore is a testimony to the hard work, determination and most importantly, dedication of all in the maritime community in keeping our global hub port and international maritime centre running smoothly and efficiently around the clock. We are pleased to partner SSA and NGC to showcase what makes Maritime Singapore tick.”

Mr Patrick Phoon, President, SSA said, “This project has additional significance to us as SSA commemorates its 30th anniversary this year. The documentary showcases the maritime industry's contribution to the growth of our nation, which not many people may be aware of. We hope that through this exciting visual representation of a vibrant maritime industry, we will inspire more youths to come onboard.”

“We are pleased to have worked on this documentary together with esteemed partners such as MPA & SSA,” said Ms Fion Yeo, Territory Head of Singapore, FOX International Channels. “With much of Singapore’s prosperity attributed to her successful location as a port hub, there was a great story for NGC to tell here. Singapore’s overall growth as a nation in just 50 years is staggering and we are proud to be part of the celebration of its success and achievements.”

Conceptualised in November last year, Inside Maritime Singapore has taken six months of planning, preparation and production to bring to life this hour-long documentary.

Be sure to catch the documentary on Tuesday, 30 June at 7pm only on National Geographic Channel (Singtel TV Ch. 201, StarHub TV Ch. 411).
