MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO ENHANCE AVIATION CO-OPERATION



1       A Memorandum of Understanding on Civil Aviation Co-operation was signed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications of Brunei Darussalam, and Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport of the Republic of Singapore on the sidelines of the 20th ASEAN Transport Ministers’ (ATM) Meeting on 27 November 2014 in Mandalay, Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

2       The MOU underscores the friendly relations and desire for greater collaboration between the transport ministries and civil aviation authorities of Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore, and will pave the way for both sides to deepen co-operation in the civil aviation sphere. Under the MOU, Brunei and Singapore will co-operate in the areas of civil aviation safety, security and training, aircraft accident and incident investigation, air traffic management, civil aviation and environmental protection and sustainable development, and other civil aviation-related matters.

3       Brunei’s Minister Yang Berhomat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar said, “The signing of this co-operative MOU will further enhance and strengthen the mutually beneficial co-operation in civil aviation, including regulatory and operational areas of both countries. We also hope our aviation industry can benefit from this collaboration”.

4       Singapore’s Minister Mr Lui Tuck Yew said, “I am very pleased Brunei and Singapore are taking our co-operation in civil aviation to a higher level with the signing of this MOU. Through greater co-operation, our two countries will be able to jointly address common challenges and harness the opportunities in the aviation arena and build on our many common aviation interests.”

5       Also in attendance to witness the signing were His Excellency Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdu'r Rahmani bin Dato Paduka Haji Basir, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar; Mr Robert Chua, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Myanmar; Mr Abdul Mutalib Pehin Dato Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Brunei Darussalam; Mr Pang Kin Keong, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport, Singapore; and other senior officials from both sides.
