Singapore Transport Minister and Denmark Minister for Business and Growth Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance Maritime Co-operation
1 Singapore and Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen maritime co-operation and relations between the two countries.
2 Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport, Singapore, and Mr Ole Sohn, Minister of Business and Growth, Denmark, signed the MOU today at the Ministry of Transport, Singapore.
3 Mr Lui said, “I am delighted that Singapore and Denmark have taken proactive steps to enhance bilateral co-operation in the maritime sector. This MOU will enable our two countries to build on our common maritime interests and address the challenges ahead.”
4 Mr Sohn said, “Singapore and Denmark are both leading maritime countries with strategic interests in high-quality maritime services. The MOU provides a solid foundation for engagement in a range of maritime activities for the benefit of both Singapore and Denmark.”
5 The MOU underscores the strong bilateral ties that Singapore and Denmark enjoy, and is also a testament to their excellent maritime relations. Under the MOU, Singapore and Denmark will explore opportunities for collaboration in the areas of quality shipping, green shipping as well as maritime research and development, education and training.
6 For example, Singapore and Denmark will co-operate to address the environmental impact of shipping, and will endeavour to support and implement international measures developed by the International Maritime Organisation to promote clean and green shipping.
