GIVING TO HERITAGE, BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY

Singapore, 27 April 2012 – Singaporeans can now enjoy new exhibits at the national museums, more exciting outreach activities island-wide, and a more vibrant and engaging museum and heritage scene – all thanks to heritage philanthropists who gave generously to the heritage cause in 2011.

2          48 of these cultural benefactors were recognised for their generous contributions in the Patron of Heritage Awards 2011 – the National Heritage Board (NHB)’s annual accolade which pays tribute to cultural philanthropists for their gifts to heritage.  In its sixth year, the awards ceremony on 27 April 2011 at the National Museum of Singapore celebrated more than S$9.2 million worth of cash sponsorships and in-kind donations to various heritage causes.  The S$9.2 million contributed is a combination of S$3.8 million of cash sponsorships, in-kind donations totaling S$4.3 million, and S$1.1 million worth of artefact donations.

3          These contributions enabled NHB to strengthen its museum offerings, outreach programmes and community engagement efforts, further equipping Singaporeans with more quality touchpoints to experience the Singapore story and our shared history and heritage.
