Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will be attending the Second ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting on 22 Oct 2009 in Hua Hin, Thailand.

The ASCC Council is one of three ASEAN Community Councils – the other two being the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council and ASEAN Economic Community Council. It discusses ASEAN's social agenda, which is focused on poverty eradication and social and human development. There are 17 sectoral bodies under the ASCC Council
[1]. The scope of ASCC Council’s work includes the environment, education, culture, health, youth, women, children, workers, social welfare, and civil service training matters.
3 The upcoming meeting of the ASCC Council will consider and endorse the various social sectoral declarations and documents that will be issued, adopted or noted by ASEAN Leaders at the 15th ASEAN Summit. Details will be released by ASEAN Secretariat.
4 Minister Balakrishnan will also be attending the Opening Ceremony of the 15th ASEAN Summit on 23 October 2009. Accompanying the Minister are officials from MCYS.
