3RD MEETING OF THE MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE JOINT MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE (JMC)FOR ISKANDAR MALAYSIA (IM)

Singapore, 4th August 2008 

 

 

The Joint Ministerial Committee[1] (JMC) for Iskandar Malaysia (IM) held its third working meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in Singapore. 

 

             The JMC reviewed the progress made so far by the four Joint Work Groups on Immigration, Transportation, Tourism and Environment. The JMC noted the efforts and initiatives to facilitate operational management of cross border traffic, exemption of certain transportation regulation requirements and increased reciprocal recognition of national motor vehicle regulations.  Progress has also been made in terms of joint tourism promotion efforts, and the development of a river cleaning action plan.

 

             Further discussions and studies on the identified areas/projects would be carried out in the coming months. The JMC will meet again in the first quarter of 2009 to review the progress of the Joint Work Groups.

[1]The establishment of the JMC was first announced by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore in Langkawi, Kedah following their meeting in May 2007, with the aim of facilitating cooperation between the two countries in relation to the IM.

 

Jointly chaired by YB Tan Sri Amirsham Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister�s Department, Malaysia and H.E. Mr. Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development, Singapore, the JMC also included as members the Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Dato� Haji Abdul Ghani Othman and H.E. Mr. Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport, Singapore.
