GERMAN STATE SECRETARY FOR DEFENCE DR PETER EICKENBOOM VISITS SINGAPORE TO CONDUCT DEFENCE POLICY DIALOGUE

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the German Federal Ministry of Defence conducted the 3rd Germany-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue on 21 August 2007. The Dialogue was co-chaired by Permanent Secretary for Defence Chiang Chie Foo and German State Secretary for Defence Dr Peter Eickenboom, who is visiting Singapore from 21 to 22 August 2007. Since its inception in 2004, the Policy Dialogues have matured into a regular platform for both countries to discuss defence cooperation and strategic developments of mutual interest.

As part of the visit, Dr Eickenboom also called on Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence this morning. Dr Eickenboom will also visit HQ Armour.

Dr Eickenboom’s visit underscores the good defence relationship between Singapore and Germany. Both countries concluded a bilateral Defence Cooperation Agreement in September 2005, and interact through regular high-level defence visits, military courses and professional exchanges, and defence technology cooperation.
