REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE NAVY AND ROYAL SWEDISH NAVY CONDUCT ANNUAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME, EX LEJON SINGA
The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN) are conducting their annual bilateral Mine Countermeasure (MCM) Exchange Programme code-named Lejon Singa, from 4 Jun to 14 Jun 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden. This year marks the 12th anniversary of Lejon Singa.
This year’s programme will build upon past years' progress in establishing a knowledge sharing system between the two navies. The programme aims to consolidate mutual understanding in areas such as mine countermeasure training and diving, and the neutralisation of explosive ordnance. In addition, emphasis will also be placed on improving both navies' capabilities in the use of modern methods in mine countermeasures and devices, such as in the area of clearing improvised explosive devices. Commander of RSN Coastal Command COL Tan Wee Beng and Commander of RSwN 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla CAPT Jan Thornqvist officiated at the Opening Ceremony on 4 Jun.
The annual conduct of Lejon Singa underscores the good relations and long-standing cooperation between the RSN and RSwN, and strengthens the professional ties and friendship between the two navies.
