
PERMANENT SECRETARY (EDUCATION)
1. Mrs Tan Ching Yee (曾庆怡), aged 41 years, currently Second Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, will be appointed Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education with effect from 1 April 2007. She will take over from LG(NS) Lim Chuan Poh, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, who will be appointed Chairman, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) on the same date.
2. Mrs Tan joined the Civil Service in 1986 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics from Cambridge University under an Overseas Merit Scholarship. She worked in the Ministry of Trade and Industry as a Statistician and later as a Research Economist before she was appointed to the Administrative Service in 1991.
3. Mrs Tan obtained a Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford University in 1997. On her return from postgraduate study, she was posted to the Ministry of Education where she served as Director (Higher Education) and then concurrently Director (Planning) and subsequently as Deputy Secretary (Policy). She was appointed Deputy Secretary (Info-Comm and Media Development), Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and concurrently Chief Executive Officer, InfoComm Development Authority of Singapore in 2002. In January 2005, Mrs Tan was appointed Second Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.
