SAF HOSTS REGIONAL SPECIAL FORCES COUNTER-TERRORISM CONFERENCE
1. The 2nd Regional Special Forces Counter-Terrorism Conference is being held in Singapore from 21 to 25 Nov 05. Hosted by the SAF Commandos, the five-day conference will involve about 90 participants from various armed forces and counter-terrorism agencies in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean delivered the keynote address this morning.2. This year’s conference builds on the momentum of the inaugural conference hosted by the Australian Army in June 2004. With the theme of “A New Paradigm”, this year’s conference will provide participants the opportunity to share professional insights and discuss ways to enhance information-sharing among counter-terrorism professionals. It aims also to develop closer professional co-operation while strengthening working-level friendships among the Special Forces fraternity. The conference offers a valuable platform for the participants to tap one another’s perspectives, expertise and experiences in dealing with the threat of terrorism. Besides the conference seminars, the participants will also watch a demonstration by the SAF Special Operations Force (SOF), supported by the SAF’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive (CBRE) Defence Group.
3. This multilateral conference will help develop closer understanding among the Special Forces of the Asia-Pacific region and to strengthen the foundation of collaboration and cooperation among Special Forces counter-terrorism experts in the fight against terrorism.
