COMMANDER ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS MILITARY AWARD

1.         The Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, Yang Mulia Colonel Joharie Bin Haji Matussin, was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), or the Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Minister for Defence Mr Teo Chee Hean at an investiture ceremony at the Ministry of Defence this morning.

 

2.         The Meritorious Service Medal (Military) was awarded to Colonel Joharie in recognition of his outstanding contributions to forging  excellent ties between the Royal Brunei Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy. Beyond strengthening the professional ties between the two navies through bilateral exercises such as the annual exercise Pelican, Colonel Joharie has also pursued the development of good ties between the Royal Brunei Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy through many interactions and professional forums. The frequent interactions between the two navies have also strengthened the camaraderie and mutual understanding among their officers and men.

 

3.                   Colonel Joharie, who is in Singapore from 25 to 27 August 2005, also called on Minister Teo, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ronnie Tay before his  investiture ceremony.
