NIE & SAFTI MI COLLABORATE TO PROMOTE INSTRUCTIONAL & INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE
The National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE, NTU) and the SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) officiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in various areas of research, development and the promotion of instructional and institutional excellence.
At a ceremony held at SAFTI MI this afternoon, the MOU was signed by Prof Lee Sing Kong, NIEs Dean of Graduate Programmes and Research, and Colonel Tan Eng Poh, Deputy Commandant of SAFTI MI. NIE Director Prof Leo Tan and SAFTI MI Commandant Brigadier-General Eric Tan Huck Gim witnessed the signing.
In line with SAFTI MIs goal to achieve leadership excellence, the military institute seeks to tap on NIEs expertise in areas of pedagogical research and learning sciences. Through NIEs various professional development courses in learning sciences, SAFTI MI trainers will be able to acquire the latest skills and knowledge, as well as obtain formal qualifications through a Specialist Diploma and Masters Degree in this field.
As the Singapore Armed Forces premier institute for training and education, SAFTI MI will, in turn, offer NIE its unique expertise in military leadership, values and organisational development. Collaboration in specific research projects in learning sciences will also provide NIE with a better understanding on the impact of the latest technology in enhancing learning among its student teachers.
Both institutions will also identify and develop joint research projects related to strategies on ethics and values. Findings from such projects will benefit both institutions in their planning and development of training programmes in military and national education.
This five-year MOU is yet another step forward for both institutions in their endeavour to develop links with other educational institutions for collaborations that can result in synergy and mutual benefits. The NIE-SAFTI MI MOU is the first for SAFTI MI with a local tertiary institution.
