MINISTER VISITS RSN SHIP DEPLOYED TO GULF

1.            Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean will be travelling to the Gulf tomorrow to visit the Republic of Singapore Navy's Landing Ship Tank (LST) RSS Resolution. The LST and its 180-strong crew are in the Gulf on a three-month deployment until March as part of Singapore's contribution to the multinational effort in support of the reconstruction in Iraq. Mr Teo will observe the LST's operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf, where it conducts security operations for the protection of waters around key oil terminals and provides logistics support for coalition vessels and helicopters.

 

2.         On his way to RSS Resolution, Mr Teo will make a visit to Bahrain, where he will call on Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force, Shaikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, and Minister of Defence and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force, Major-General Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al-Khalifa. There are friendly interactions between the Bahrain Defence Force and the Singapore Armed Forces in the form of visits and courses.

 

3.         Mr Teo returns to Singapore on Monday.
