APPOINTMENT OF SINGAPORE’S AMBASSADOR TO MONGOLIA

 

The Government has appointed Mr Calvin Eu Mun Hoo, 48, as Ambassador to Mongolia, resident in Seoul. Mr Eu is concurrently Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. He will present his credentials to President Natsagiyn Bagabandi, of Mongolia, on 24 July 2002.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY OF MR CALVIN EU MUN HOO

 

Mr Calvin Eu Mun Hoo is Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

 

Mr Eu was born in Singapore on 27 April 1954. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (1978) and Bachelor of Social Science (Honours Class II Upper) Degree in Political Science (1979) from the University of Singapore. In 1986, he obtained the Master of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies, USA under the Fulbright scholarship.

 

Mr Eu joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 1979. He served as First Secretary in the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta from 1981 to 1985 and as First Secretary and later as Counsellor in the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from 1989 to 1992. He returned to the Ministry as Director, Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate 1 (South East Asia and ASEAN political matters) before assuming duty as Charge d'Affaires in the Singapore Embassy in Yangon in February 1994. Subsequently, he was appointed as the first resident Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Myanmar from 20 June 1994 to 6 September 1996. Upon his return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, he served as Director, Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate III (East Asia and the Pacific) and Director, Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate I (South East Asia and Regional Policy). He assumed post as Ambassador in Bangkok in January 1999.

 

Mr Eu is a senior officer in the Administrative Service. He has attended numerous international, regional and ASEAN conferences and meetings. He has also served as a member of the board of various Singapore statutory boards and agencies which included East Asian Institute Management Board, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Policy Committee, and Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Executive Committee.

 

Mr Eu is married to Madam Linda Choo and they have three sons.
