Press Release

MITA Takes Over Arts Entertainment Licensing

Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MITA) will take over the licensing of arts entertainment from the Public Entertainments Licensing Unit (PELU), Singapore Police Force with effect from 1st July 2002.

Currently, FPD is the licensing and censorship authority for films and publications. With this new arrangement, FPD will become the licensing and censorship authority for films, publications, plays and other forms of arts entertainment for a more consistent and calibrated approach.

PELU will continue to license establishments that provide public entertainments such as nightclubs, bar, discotheques, cabarets and karaoke lounges and computer game centres. PELU will also license public entertainment outlets and performance of music, singing and dancing that is provided on a long-term basis in the establishment. The Police will also continue to deal with law and order issues associated with arts entertainment.

"Arts Entertainment" includes play, dance, music, exhibition, variety show, pop/rock concerts and ad hoc performances at establishments. The full list is attached at Appendix 1.

Applicants for arts entertainment licences may apply to FPD either in person or through its website at http://www.fpd.gov.sg. FPD is located at:

45 Maxwell Road, URA Centre East Wing

#07-11/12 Singapore 069118

Tel: 63722845

Fax: 62220956

Public can also contact PELU at 6835 0000 for queries on licences issued by PELU.
