TRANSFER OF THE SINGAPORE ACCREDITATION COUNCIL TO THE STANDARDS, PRODUCTIVITY AND INNOVATION BOARD ON 1 APRIL 2002

The Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC), a division of the Singapore Confederation of Industries (SCI) will be transferred to the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board or SPRING Singapore from 1 April 2002.

The SAC was established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 1996 between the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and the SCI. Its mission is to provide internationally recognized accreditation and registration services so as to help ensure the highest level of professional practice by conformity assessment bodies.

There is now a rising need for Singapore to have a government standards and accreditation body that can represent Singapore in all industries and to establish Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with other countries. Hence, the SAC has been transferred from SCI to SPRING Singapore from 1 Apr 2002.

SCI’s management and guidance of the SAC have been crucial in the SAC’s development and progress. MTI appreciates the excellent work that SCI has done to build up the SAC as a respected accreditation body.
