PRESS STATEMENT
ON CANADA-SINGAPORE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
Singapore and Canada conducted the first round of negotiations for a Canada-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) from 21-25 Jan 2002.
The two sides discussed a comprehensive range of issues, such as trade in goods, trade in services, financial services, ICT, investment, competition, dispute settlement. Significant progress was achieved on understanding each other’s regimes and identifying areas of common interest.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for Feb 25 – Mar 1, 2002 in Ottawa.
The Canada-Singapore FTA was launched by the Prime Ministers of Canada and Singapore on 21st Oct 2001 at the fringes of APEC Leaders' Meeting.
