NO CANVASSING ON POLLING DAY

 

No canvassing is permitted on polling day.

Prohibition on Use of Political Party Symbols

Under section 77 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, there can be no carrying, wearing, using or displaying by any person or on any vehicle of any badge, symbol, rosette, favour, set of colours, flag, advertisement, handbill, placard or poster, or any replica of a voting paper as political publicity on Polling Day. The prohibition also covers the wearing of any apparel with political symbols and party names.

Only a candidate contesting the Election may wear on his person a badge indicating his affiliation with a political party or a replica of the symbol allotted to him by the Returning Officer.

Exit Polls and Election Advertising Ban

Under section 78 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, no person shall publish before the close of all polling stations on polling day any forecast or exit polls on the result of the election.

No person shall display or publish any new election advertising on polling day. This prohibition does not apply to news media publishing news related to an election on polling day.

Election posters and banners should not be displayed within 200 metres of any polling station.
