Registers of Electors for the 24 Constituencies (15 Group Representation Constituencies and 9 Single Member Constituencies) will be exhibited for public inspection from 28 Sep 2001 to 11 Oct 2001. Registration for overseas voting can also be made from 28 Sep 2001 to 18 Oct 2001 at any Inspection Centre and Overseas Registration Centre. The addresses of the Inspection Centres and Overseas Registration Centres are shown in the attached list and the time for inspection and application for overseas voting are as follows:

a) Monday to Friday : 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm

b) Saturday : 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm

For the Overseas Registration Centres, the hours of application for overseas voting will be the business hours of the respective Overseas Missions where the Centres are established.

The purposes of the exhibition are to allow electors: -

Period of exhibition from 28 Sep 2001 to 11 Oct 2001

 Names of all Singapore Citizens who are 21 years of age and above on 31 Aug 2001 and who are ordinarily residents in Singapore will be included in the Registers of Electors. However, they are advised to check their names against the Registers of Electors during the Inspection period at any of the Inspection Centres. They should bring along their identity cards when they visit the Centres.

 Those electors whose names have not been reinstated in the Registers of Electors because they failed to vote at previous elections can also make written applications (on prescribed forms) to have their names restored to the Registers of Electors at any Inspection Centre. As far as possible, they should produce documentary evidence in support of their applications for reinstatement.

 Electors who wish to register for overseas voting must have their names included in the Registers of Electors and must satisfy one of the following criteria:-

1. A member of the Singapore Armed Forces on full-time service or training outside Singapore;

 

2. A public officer or an employee of any public authority employed in full-time service outside Singapore;

 

3. A public officer or an employee of a public authority on full-time training outside Singapore;

 

4. A citizen of Singapore of not less than 21 years of age on 31 Aug 2001 and on full-time training outside Singapore that is sponsored by the Government or any public authority;

 

5. Employed outside Singapore by an international organisation of which Singapore is a member;

 

6. The spouse or a parent/child/dependant of any person referred to in sub-paragraph (a), (b), (c), (d) or (e) and is living with that person; or

 

7. Not resident in Singapore but has resided in Singapore for an aggregate of 2 years during the period of 5 years immediately preceeding 28 Sep 2001.

 Forms for application for overseas voting are obtainable at all Singapore Overseas Missions.

 The certified 2001 Registers of Electors will be used for the coming General Election.

 Every elector will vote in the constituency according to the address listed in the Registers of Electors and at any one of the 5 overseas polling stations if they have registered as overseas electors.
