PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE
VISIT OF PRIME MINISTER GOH CHOK TONG TO
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 9 TO 14 JUNE 2001
Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will be visiting Washington, D.C. from 9 to 14 June 2001. He will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Prof S Jayakumar, Minister for Trade and Industry BG George Yeo and senior officials.
Prime Minister Goh will meet President George W Bush at the White House. He will also hold separate meetings with Vice President Richard Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of Treasury Paul O'Neill, Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans, US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and several leading members of the US Congress.
The Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at an event organised by the US-ASEAN Business Council on 12 June 2001. He will also hold discussions with members of the Board of Directors of the US Chamber of Commerce.
Contact Singapore will organise a reception for the Prime Minister to meet Singaporeans in the Washington D.C. area.
Prime Minister Goh returns to Singapore on 18 June. During the Prime Minister’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister BG Lee Hsien Loong will be the Acting Prime Minister from 8 to 18 June 2001.
