NEWS RELEASE

 

1. In May 2000, the Minister for Law, in consultation with the Attorney-General, appointed Mr Goh Joon Seng, a retired Supreme Court Judge, to chair and form a new Conveyancing Fees Review Committee :

      1. to consider whether to retain, modify or abolish the existing statutory fee scale for conveyancing matters, taking into account the recommendations made in 1995 by the previous Committee and subsequent changes in circumstances; and
      2. to make recommendations as desirable in the public interest.

2. The Conveyancing Fees Review Committee has now been formed with representatives from the Law Society of Singapore, the Bar, the Attorney-General's Chambers, the Singapore Land Registry, the Association of Banks, the Finance Houses’ Association, the Consumers’ Association, and the Real Estate Developers’ Association.

3. At its first meeting held on 16 June 2000, the Committee decided that in order to obtain the views of a wide spectrum of the public, the Committee would like to invite written representations from members of the public and interested bodies and institutions.
