SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT DIRECTORY INTERACTIVE
Under a PS21 initiative, a web-version of the Singapore Government Directory (SGD) will be available on the Internet from 1 May 2000. Called the SGD Interactive (SGDI), it will be accessible at http://www.gov.sg/sgdi.
The SGD is currently only printed and sold in bookstores. It contains information on government organisations and the contacts of public officers serving in them. This includes mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and a guide to the email addressees of the public officers. The SGD is updated and reprinted every 6 months.
The SGDI will offer the same information on government organisations and their services, and the contacts of public officers. However, the email addresses of public officers will be individually listed to enable users to simply click on them to generate an email to the public officer. In addition, the SGDI will have a built-in search engine. It is a free service, accessible also overseas. It will be constantly updated to reflect latest staff and organisational changes.
Emails from members of the public to the officers will be routinely processed by staff as with any written correspondences. Senders should provide their names, physical addresses, and telephone numbers for call back, authentication or clarification.
