APPOINTMENT OF LT-GEN (RETD) WINSTON CHOO
AS HIGH COMMISSIONER TO PAPUA NEW GUINEA
The Government has appointed Lt-Gen (Retd) Winston Choo Wee Leong, 58, as Singapore’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, resident in Singapore.
Gen Choo was Singapore’s High Commissioner to Australia and Fiji from March 1994 to June 1997. Prior to that, Gen Choo was Chief of General Staff (renamed Chief of Defence Force in May 1990) from 1974 to 1992. Gen Choo was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1978, Public Administration Medal (Gold) (Military) in 1981 and the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) in 1990 by the Singapore Government.
Gen Choo has been Chairman of the Singapore Red Cross Society since 1996, and a member of the National Youth Achievement Award Council. He serves on the Boards of Directors of several companies, including Keppel-Tat Lee Bank and DBS Land Limited.
Gen Choo is married to the former Katherine Seow and has two children, a daughter aged 30 and a son aged 29.
