APPOINTMENT OF SINGAPORE’S HIGH COMMISSIONER TO THE UNITED KINGDOM AND SINGAPORE’S AMBASSADOR TO BELGIUM

 

The Government has appointed Professor Pang Eng Fong, 56, as Singapore’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Ireland, and Mr Ampalavanar Selverajah, 46, as Singapore’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium with concurrent accreditation to the European Commission, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Holy See.

 

Professor Pang Eng Fong who is currently Singapore’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium was previously Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from November 1994 to June 1996.

 

Mr Ampalavanar Selverajah is currently the Director of Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate II (North America/Europe) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 1979. He has served as Counsellor at the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from August 1987 to August 1990, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. from February 1994 to March 1997. On his return to Ministry HQ, he was appointed to his current post.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

 

Professor Pang Eng Fong is currently Singapore’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, with concurrent accreditation to the European Commission, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He was Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (with concurrent accreditation to Mongolia) from November 1994 to June 1996.

Professor Pang was born in Singapore on 29 December 1943. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics in 1967 from the then University of Singapore and obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Illinois in 1971.

Professor Pang joined the University of Singapore in 1971 as a lecturer. Before being appointed in 1983 as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business Administration, National University of Singapore, he served as the Director of the Economic Research Centre in the National University of Singapore.

Professor Pang was a board member of several Singapore Government agencies including the Science Council, Urban Redevelopment Authority, National Statistical Commission and National Library Board.

Professor Pang is married and has two children.

Mr Ampalavanar Selverajah is currently the Director of Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate II (North America/Europe) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Born in Johore, Malaysia on 21 December 1953, Mr Selverajah graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours (Class II Upper) degree in History from the National University of Singapore in 1979. He obtained a Master of International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, New York in 1985.

 

Mr Selverajah joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 1979. He served as First Secretary and later as Counsellor at the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from August 1987 to August 1990. He was Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. from February 1994 to March 1997. On his return to Ministry HQ, he was appointed to his current post of Director of Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate II (North America/Europe) in November 1997.

 

Mr Selverajah is married to Mdm S. Saandhamma. They have two sons.
