SINGAPORE PUBLIC HOLIDAYS YEAR 2000

1.The dates for the specified public holidays for Year 2000 are as follow :

New Year’s Day Saturday 1^st January 2000

Hari Raya Puasa Saturday 8^th January 2000

Chinese New Year Saturday 5^th February 2000

Sunday* 6^th February 2000

Hari Raya Haji Thursday 16^th March 2000

Good Friday Friday 21^st April 2000

Labour Day Monday 1^st May 2000

Vesak Day Thursday 18^th May 2000

National Day Wednesday 9^th August 2000

Deepavali Thursday 26^th October 2000

Christmas Day Monday 25^th December 2000

Hari Raya Puasa Wednesday 27^th December 2000

* The following Monday will be a public holiday.

2 The Ministry would like to inform that the date for Deepavali as stated above, 26 October 2000, is based on the calculated formula as used in previous years. It will be further confirmed with the Indian Almanacs when they are available towards the end of 1999 as the actual Deepavali date is based on the Indian Almanacs. Should there be any changes, the Ministry of Manpower will announce it accordingly towards the end of 1999.

3 The Ministry would also like to inform that in Year 2000, Hari Raya Puasa will be celebrated twice on 8 Jan 2000 and 27 Dec 2000 respectively. This festival was also celebrated twice in 1968.
