Changes in Key CNB Appointments
Mr Sim Poh Heng, Director of Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), will be retiring on 3 Apr 99. Mr Tan Seck Kang, currently Deputy Director of CNB, will succeed Mr Sim as Director of CNB on 3 Apr 99.
Mr Muhammad Azni Bin Sarbini, currently Assistant Director (Intelligence) in CNB, will take over as Deputy Director of CNB on the same day.
Mr Sim Poh Heng began his career with the Singapore Police Force in 1970 after graduating from the University of Singapore with a B.A. (Hons) degree. He was posted to the Internal Security Department (ISD) in 1974 before he was appointed as Director of CNB in May 1991. In his 8-year tenure as Director of CNB, Mr Sim has made significant improvements to CNB’s intelligence and enforcement capabilities. He introduced measures to streamline the planning and execution of operations against drug trafficking syndicates. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1989.
Mr Tan Seck Kang graduated with LLB(Hons) from the University of London in 1979. He also obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He joined the Singapore Police Force in 1965 and was posted to the ISD in 1969 before he was appointed Deputy Director of CNB in Sep 1996. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1988.
Mr Muhammad Azni Bin Sarbini graduated from the National University of Singapore with a B.A. in 1985. He joined the CNB in 1989 and was appointed Assistant Director (Intelligence) in Mar 1998. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 1998.
