COLLECTION OF TOLLS

AT TUAS AND WOODLANDS CHECKPOINTS

The Second Crossing is a project jointly developed by Singapore and Malaysia (See Footnote). Malaysia has announced that it would collect tolls for the use of the Second Crossing bridge. Singapore would also collect tolls at the Second Crossing and the Causeway.

As stated previously, Singapore will peg our toll rates to Malaysia’s for the use of the Second Crossing and the Causeway initially. With effect from 17 March 1998, 8 o’clock in the morning, tolls will be collected from motorists on both inward and outward-bound traffic on the Second Crossing, and only for outward bound traffic on the Causeway. The toll rates are as follows:

Vehicle Category

(for each way)

Causeway

(outbound traffic only)

(Note : Vans/Small lorries are defined as those with 2 axles and 6 wheels or less. Big lorries are defined as those with more than 6 wheels.)

Tolls will be collected through toll coupons initially. Eventually, we will be automating the toll collection, eg. by using ERP-type gantries.

The toll coupons will be available for sale from 12 March 98 at designated petrol kiosks, post offices, 7-Eleven outlets and NTUC Fairprice outlets throughout the island. Motorists can also buy the toll coupons from the Land Transport Authority (Sin Ming Drive). The toll coupons for the two checkpoints will be differentiated by colours. The coupons will be undated. Motorists can buy the toll coupons individually or in booklet of 10 coupons.

The toll coupons will be collected during immigration clearance. At the Singapore immigration booth, the motorist will hand the toll coupon to the immigration officer who will then stamp the coupon and return it to the motorist. Once stamped, the coupon cannot be re-used.

In order not to delay their immigration clearance, motorists are advised to have the appropriate toll coupons ready when they approach either the Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints. Motorists returning to Singapore vide the Second Crossing are also advised to get their toll coupons before leaving the country. Those (Malaysian and Singaporean) without toll coupons will be redirected to designated areas at the respective immigration checkpoint to purchase the appropriate toll coupons.

Pamphlets on the toll rates and collection will be made available at the toll sales outlets and the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints. For more information on the toll rates and mechanism, please contact the Land Transport Authority at

1-800-533-5229 or access its Internet Homepage at www.lta.gov.sg.
