COMMITTEE ON SINGAPORE'S COMPETITIVENESS -
FORMATION OF THE SUB-COMMITTEE ON HUB SERVICES
1. The Hub-Services Sub-Committee, one of the five sub-committees under the Committee on Singapore's Competitiveness, is chaired by Mr Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of the Hong Leong Group. Its members have been drawn from the various sectors such as international trading, transport and logistics, exhibition, communications and information, and business and professional services. Committee members are listed in the Annex.
2. In view of the diversity of Hub Services, the Sub-Committee will form 5 working groups to focus on the following 5 key areas:
The Sub-Committee plans to meet regularly over the next four months to review the competitive factors, as well as to identify the emerging trends likely to impact on Singapore's development as a Hub-City over the next 10 years.
3. In addition to Singapore's existing hub services, Mr Kwek, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Hub Services, said that the Sub-Committee hopes to highlight new niches in Hub Services to enable Singapore to propel itself towards an established International Hub-City. Mr Kwek is also a member of the Main Committee on Singapore's Competitiveness.
4. The Sub-Committee will work closely with the Main Committee and its findings will be presented to the Main Committee by the end of 1997.
5. The Committee on Singapore's Competitiveness was set up by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to review Singapore's longer-term competitiveness. Its other Sub-Committees include:
