One Space; Many Stories
Mention the Causeway and what comes to mind? Of cars, commuters and custom clearances? Indeed, since its construction, the Causeway has been a vital link connecting Singapore and Malaysia, facilitating an enormous flow of people and goods between the two countries 24 hours a day, seven days a week. While the Causeway is commonly perceived as a space for transit, it is also very much a space on its own, bearing witness to a rich social history over the last 100 years.
As we celebrate centenary of the Causeway, let’s explore some of the historical materials to tease out personal stories and memories associated with the Causeway, spotlighting the infrastructure as a communal space.
