Title: Lagu Dari Nandoeng Sayang
This is the earliest record in the National Archives of Singapore’s sound collection. The title is loosely translated as "Song from a Love Serenade". The recording was produced by Fred Gaisberg during his first expedition to Asia in 1902-1903. Gaisberg was an American recording engineer and pioneer of commercial sound recording who worked for the Gramophone Company (now EMI). Not much is known of the performer, Ismael, who came from Penang and was the first artist to record in Singapore.
