Synopsis :Three segments covered in this programme:
1. An End To The CPM? - after nearly 30 years of hiding, the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) has finally decided to emerge from the jungles of West Malaysia. On 2 December 1989, the elusive leader of the CPM, Chin Peng, will meet Thai and Malaysian government officials to sign a peace agreement. This means that the CPM is willing to give up armed struggle as a means to political power in Malaysia and Singapore. This segment looks at the reasons and the implications of this historic agreement.
2. Interview With Brigadier-General (BG) George Yeo - in this interview, Minister of State for Finance and Foreign Affairs, BG George Yeo, talks about his outlook on life, his political philosophy and current issues affecting Singapore.
3. Japanese Fiesta - the story of Japan's economic success has been a stunning one, from the initial post-war restoration to today's economic dominance. But success has not come without its problems. Japan is now facing a rapidly ageing population, an erosion of the traditional work ethic among the younger generation, and other consequential challenges which will contribute to a loss in the country's competitive edge. This segment discusses whethr Japan can remain at the top, in the face of the challenges of the nineties. It also features the views of some of Japan's top industrialists.
