  • Synopsis :

This recording features nobat music played by various Malay royal nobat bands. The nobat or Royal Musical Ensemble is a form of traditional Malay music in Malaya. The ensemble performs on special occasions like the installation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or King, at investiture ceremonies of Malay rulers and at the King's birthday. The word nobat has its origin in the Persian word naubat, referring to nine types of instruments. This recording features nobat music recorded in the studios of Radio Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 1957 and 1958.
