Synopsis :The dinner was also known as the Establishment Dinner. This recording contains speech by Fock Siew Wah, Chairman of the Celebration Council and President of OUB. Mr Fock pays tribute to PM and his 1st cabinet ministers and launched the $10 million Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, in honour of PM's contributions to the founding and building of modern Singapore. He also presented PM with the Fellowship medallion.
This is followed by PM Lee's speech. PM Lee stresses the importance of the Singapore Establishment - the government, civil service, judiciary, the army the police. The establishment has earned its right to govern based on meritocracy, and it must work together, have espirit de corps, a sense of honour and shared values and to have integrity - that hallmark of Singapore establishment. PM also draws on the lessons that Singapore must be prepared to defend itself at all times, Singapore leaders must have deep roots in the people to win the support and cooperation of the people.
