Synopsis :This programme 'Darihal Getah' (About Rubber) in the 'Berchakap Melayu' (Speak Malay) series is targeted at Secondary 2 students. It tells the history and origin of rubber trees. The teacher explains how rubber trees were discovered by Christopher Columbus and later commercialised by Fresneau, Henry Wickham and Henry Ridley. She also tells how rubber trees were brought into Singapore, where Tan Chay Yan was among the first to start a rubber plantation.
This programme also shows the process of making rubber, which begins at the plantation and ends at the factory.
