Synopsis :In this programme, the spotlight falls on Abu Ali al-Hussain Ibn Abdallah Ibn Sina also known as Ibnu Sina, a famous philosopher, academic and doctor who was born in the village of Afshana near Bukhara in Uzbekistan in the year 980 AD. He is said to be one of the most influential Muslim leaders who ever lived. He was well-versed in the Koran and the sciences and attained expertise in medicine at a young age. When he was 17, he cured Nooh Ibn Mansoor, the King of Bukhara of an illness which well-known physicians could not cure. He turned down the King's offer to reward him, but asked for permission to use the King's well stocked library. Ibnu Sina wrote prolifically on a wide range of topics related to medicine including tuberculosis, meningitis, the distribution of diseases by water and soil and the interaction between psychology and health. His most famous writing, 'Qanun fi al-Thib' or 'The Canon of Medicine' is widely used in medical schools all over the world. He was very devoted to Islam and the Ibnu Sina International Foundation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan is named after this renowned doctor and philosopher.
