Synopsis :18 June 2008 marks 100 days since the Malaysian General Election of March that year. In the election, the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) established control in the states of Penang, Selangor, Kedah, Perak and retained Kelantan. This programme takes stock of the opposition's performance in its first 100 days in power. Deputy Chief Minister of Penang, Professor P Ramasamy from the DAP says that the Pakatan has moved away from race-based politics and devised a system to accomodate the aspirations of all communities. This includes transparency in awarding contracts, reducing wastage and helping poor families cope with the rising cost of living. The programme also looks at the need to improve the relationship between the state government in opposition-held states and the federal government, and addresses concerns about foreign investments in these states. Observers feel that a change in government does not mean a loss in investor confidence. In fact, after the election, two high profile foreign investments have come to Penang. We also hear about different agendas within the Pakatan. Defacto leader Anwar Ibrahim wants to form the next federal government while the DAP and PAS prefer to focus on state politics.
