  • Synopsis :

The British Foreign Secretary, the Right Honourable Michael Stewart, is interviewed about British policy in relation to Singapore's secession from Malaysia. He explains that Britain is still awaiting proposals from both the Malaysian and Singaporean governments and that Britain would like for the people of the region to live in peace and harmony despite their differences in nationality. He comments on Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's statement on how he might only give Britain 24 hours to leave their base in Singapore. He also mentions that the secession will likely have an effect on Britain's East-of-Suez policy.
