Synopsis :Having received numerous honours and awards, Goh Choo San also established the Goh Choo San/ H. Robert Magee Foundation to award grants to dance companies to produce new works of choreography. His ballets are preformed all over the world. Goh Choo San passed away in his New York home in November 1987. This performance is in memory of Singapore's best known dance choreographer.
Variations Serieuses
A quicksilver, ebullient work full of sharp, brightly focused pictures, this ballet is danced to a solo live piano accompaniment by Seow Yit Kin, Singapore-born and London-based pianist.
Pas de deux from Configurations
Created for Mikhail Baryshnikov and the American Ballet Theatre in 1981, Configurations emerges as a fragmented flashback of a relationship. This 2nd movement excerpt will be danced by principal dancer Goh Chan Hon from The National Ballet of Canada with Kuik Swee Boon.
Double Contrasts
This witty and energetic ballet is both elegant and classical in dance form. The black and white costumes in this ballet not only suggest piano keys - the solo instruments featured in the music - but also convey an air of chic elegance.
Unknown Territory
A wedding, replete with rituals and customs in an Unknown Territory. Among the most significant of the customs - the departure of the groom upon his betrothal to prove his worth and manhood by performing a heroic quest before returning to his bride.
