Synopsis :1) Raymonda:
Set in chivalric times, the ballet tells the story of Raymonda, betrothed to Jean De Brienne. When her fiancee is engaged in the crusades, his rival, the Saracan knight, Abdourachman thrusts his attentions upon Raymonda, threatening to abduct her. Happily, De Brienne returns in time to foil the abduction and slays the would-be seducer. In the final act from which this Grand Pas Classique is excerpted, Raymonda and Jean De Brienne celebrate their wedding.
2) Sleeping Beauty:
The action takes place in the nameless and mythical kingdom of King Florestan and his Queen. Florestan and his Queen have invited fairies to be godmother at the christening of their daughter Aurora. The aged fairy Carabosse who was omitted from the list turns up unexpectedly and places a curse upon Aurora that she will grow up to be the most beautiful princess of them all but she pricks herself upon a sharp object and die.
The Lilac Fairy however who has yet to giver her blessings mitigates the curse: instead of death, Aurora will fall into a death-like sleep that can only be awakened by a prince. Aurora reaches adulthood but on her 16th birthday celebrations, Carabosse appears in disguise and tempts the princess with a spindle on which she subsequently pricks herself. Aurora and the whole court is overcome with a sleep.
100 years later, Prince Desire receives a vision of the sleeping princess and with the guidance of the Lilac Fairy finds Aurora and awakes her with a kiss.
