  • Synopsis :

Tape starts with Dr Toh Chin Chye' speech in Malay, followed by a speech in Hokkien. In Hokkien, Dr Toh talks about the need for all Singaporeans to unite to achieve a state of peace in Singapore. He urges the people to work hand in hand to resume peace and harmony in the country.

Minister for Social Affairs Inche Othman Wok speaks in Malay after Dr Toh. Tape ends with Dr Toh's speech in English. Similarly in his ending speech, Dr Toh likened the racial riots to the form of the malaria disease. The lurking root problem must be solved to stop reoccurrence. To this Dr Toh explains the way to make Singapore survive out from the communal incident is to have everyone reinforced with a common basic objective. Civilians must help the government to maintain peace. He reminds that everyone suffers equally from the riots, everyday life is affected while economic plans interrupted. He thanks the teachers and members of the public who have participated in this goodwill tour to Joo Chiat and Geylang Serai Community Centre.
