Synopsis :Malaysia's Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives Sulaiman bin Bulan talks on the eve of the Freedom from Hunger Campaign (FFHC) for broadcast over Radio Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. He says the campaign in its 4th year is launched by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations primarily to bring awareness across the world to the 'continuing problem of hunger and malnutrition' and to find solutions. The campaign is intended to attack 'the problems of hunger on the broad front and at all level of economic and social actions' and the essence of the campaign is 'human solidarity' involving governmental, non-governmental organisations, international and local bodies, foundations and individuals as well to participate on voluntary basis in 'concerted actions' to break the 'vicious circle of poverty and stagnation'. Another aspect of the campaign is 'not to treat the problem of hunger in isolation but as an effect of poverty'. He adds Malaysia as a whole participates in the campaign even though 'hunger does not really exist at present' in the five territories, but there is 'hunger and malnutrition among the young people in the rural areas'. He urges the people to give their full support to the campaign. Recording is made in the Singapore studio from the studio in Kuala Lumpur.
