  • Synopsis :

    The DVD compilation consists of four video clips:-
    1. Act 1 'The Beginning' narrates the story of Sang Nila Utama and the legend of the founding of the island of Singapura.
    2. Act 2 'Towards Nationhood' traces the modern history of Singapore from the Japanese Occupation (1942-1945); the Japanese surrender in 1945; the difficult post-war years and riots in the 1950s; merger with Malaysia in 1963 and subsequent separation in 1965 and the decades from the 1970s onwards of nation building.
    3. Act 3 "Overcoming the Odds" details the difficulties that Singapore went through in the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997; the SARS crisis in 2003; economic uncertainty in 2001-2002 and the road to recovery with excerpts of speeches from Prime Ministers Goh Chok Tong and Lee Hsien Loong.
    4. Grand Finale 'Making of our Future' shows snippets of young Singapore children expressing their hopes and dreams; excerpt the 2004 National Day Rally Speech from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; birthday greetings on Singapore's 40th National Day from children and overseas Singaporeans in Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand and USA.
